All Time Best: Movie Trailer of 2011
2011 was an incredible year for movie trailers. What shocked me was how many amazing teasers arrived as 2011 wound down. When I thought about the one trailer that stuck with me I couldn’t get Middle Earth out of my head.
THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY
For more than a decade, I’ve associated The Lord of the Rings trilogy with Christmas. The films were released during the holiday season and the extended DVDs were always waiting under the tree. I watch the entire trilogy in addition to every second of the special features at least twice a year. And it’s inspiring every single time.
This year we got our first glimpse at Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Watching the trailer felt like I was visiting an old friend. Returning to Middle Earth was every bit as wonderful as I had hoped and I’ve been giddy ever since.
Everything about this trailer worked for me right down to the score which sounds like the geniuses behind the trilogy picked up right where they left off. The landscapes are back, the visual effects are back & the awesome characters (old and new) are back. But most of all, the remarkable storytelling is back.
I’ve watched the trailer at least once a day since it was released. I’ve memorized the song. I loved The Lord of the Rings and I can’t wait to go back when The Hobbit is released.
Is it December 2012 yet?

Thankfully, as with most Peter Jackson projects, we’ve also been treated to some pretty fantastic video diaries.
