Movies As Stress Relief

Movies As Stress Relief | Movie Blog

Last week, I had a doctors appointment. Nothing serious at all.  Just wanted to rule out a few concerns etc…

I have a big problem with doctors as my imagination tends to run wild resulting in high levels of stress.  Scratch that…  I’m kind of terrified of every form of doctor there is. (Especially dentists…)

I tend to be an anxious guy but I’ve learned to deal with it positively and for the most part it works and I calm down.

So after two hours in the waiting room, I was in a reasonably calm state of mind.

Until they wanted a blood test.

I hate needles.

When it comes to needles, I know it has to be done and I handle it but I’m NOT happy about it.  I suppose you could argue that nobody gets excited about needles.  I happen to agree but I tend to become agitated and pretty much shut down until it’s over.

Panic returned as I started wondering about the results.  To make matters worse, I still had three hours to kill before my shift began that day.

The solution to that problem also happens to be one of my favorite methods to relieve stress:

I went to the movies!

Iron Man 2

Whenever I was stressed out growing up I always turned to one of two options:

  • Play basketball
  • Watch movies

Movies have always had a calming effect on me. It’s one of the main reasons why I continue to make Rainy Sunday picks every week.  There’s nothing like curling up with a good movie.  Especially on a rough day.

Or even better, head out to the theater.

When the movie ended, I was stress free and back to my old self.  Ready to tackle any results that come my way.  For the record, the results came in and everything is fine! Whew.

As a side note, the first Iron Man was better.  I felt like they shot all the talky scenes first and then rushed through the action sequences.  It’s a shame Whiplash didn’t put up a better fight.  Oh well…
