Movies That Scarred Me For Life: The Little Mermaid

Movies that scarred me for life is all about the movies that keep you up at night.  The horrors you just can’t seem to get out of your head.  But beyond the monsters, ghosts, slashers and aliens, there are also the cringe worthy films you wish you never saw.  Movies that made you wish you had the lost two hours of your life back.  There are tons of ways a movie can scar you for life.  This series will look at 12 of my personal favorites.

The Little Mermaid

Before I begin, let me first say that The Little Mermaid as a whole is a pleasant movie except for…  Ursula!

Ursula In My Nightmares…

That white haired squid scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. I was SIX after all.  I can actually remember one specific nightmare I had starring Ursula.

I’m on a creaky rowboat in the middle of the ocean without any paddles.  As you would expect, there’s a giant storm with huge waves rising up all around me.  Suddenly, a wave lifts my boat about 100 feet in the air and I know I’m about to get tossed into the water below.  Just before I fall, a massive King Triton appears in the distance…  And does nothing!

The jerk just watched and now I definitely know I’m going down. As I look towards the water I see a familiar black and purple tentacle waiting for me.  I plead with the King but he disappears and I fall.

I hit the water hard and immediately start swimming towards the surface but a tentacle grabs my leg.  Before I know it, I’m completely wrapped up and I’m being pulled deeper and deeper towards, Ursula!

That’s when I woke up…

I’m curious what a dream like that would mean if there are any interpreters out there…

Isn’t Ursula’s deep voice far too creepy for kids or was I just a complete sissy growing up?

“Life’s full of tough choices isn’t it!  heh, heh, heh, heh..”

That cackle is creepy right?  For a six year old?

Even the Weed-People Garden is scary!

Obviously, I turned eventually 10 and became too cool for The Little Mermaid but I was always terrified of ending up in her little ‘weed-people’ garden.  Those Disney people sure had imaginations.  She really is one of the most unique villains in the Disney universe.

At the end of the day, I think I was more affected by my dream but you always have to give credit where credit is due.  Ursula used to scare me…  And that’s okay!

It’s embarrassing to admit to this but you have to be honest when you start a series called Movies That Scarred Me For Life.
