I don’t think there is a movie fan on the planet that doesn’t have a list like this. Movies that scarred you for life. Most people immediately think of the horror movies that kept them up at night. I’m sure statistically, horror movies make up 90% of the films that send chills up your spine when you think about them. This series was always about more than just horror films. Even Disney movies can have a lasting affect on you for all the wrong reasons. Beyond that, there are also the movies that absolutely disappoint you so much that you can’t bare to watch them again. Movies that literally anger you because you expected so much more.
Combined, this series looked at everything from Spiders to bad sequels.
Check out the entire ‘Movies That Scarred Me For Life’ Series below and be sure to comment. What movies have haunted you?
Movies that scarred me for life is all about the movies that keep you up at night. The horrors you just can’t seem to get out of your head. But beyond the monsters, ghosts, slashers and aliens, there are also the cringe worthy films you wish you never saw. Movies that made you wish you had the lost two hours of your life back. There are tons of ways a movie can scar you for life. This series will look at 12 of my personal favorites.
Black Robe… I saved the best (or worst depending on how you look at it) for last. When I started this 12 part series, there was never a shred of doubt in my mind that Black Robe would be at the top of the list. It all began long ago when I was very young…
While visiting family, my parents and my aunt and uncle wanted to have a dinner sans children. So along with my sister and 2 cousins, we were granted a ‘movie night’. My dad and uncle went out and rented a couple videos. It’s funny how times have changed since then. I can’t remember the last time I went out and rented a movie. (Thank you ‘On Demand’.) At some point, they decided to add Black Robe to the usual cartoons and comedies. They asked us to watch Black Robe first thinking it would be an educational experience…
I’m sure they regretted not watching it first.
There we were, 4 kids in the basement watching Black Robe and constantly wondering if there was a rating higher than ‘R’. We decided to go with ‘Z’… Kids don’t like movies like Black Robe! Personally, I remember being horrified during a scene where some men are forced through a gauntlet and beaten very badly. That memory has always stuck in my head. I was terrified of being forced into a similar situation. You can actually see a glimpse of that scene in the trailer above.
I don’t remember if we finished the film or not but needless to say, our parents cooked us one hell of a meal the next night to make up for it. Since then, Black Robe has become an inside joke in my family and to this day, I haven’t seen it since…
