10 Flicks: Movies with Star Wars References | Movie Blog

Star Wars has inspired thousands of films since it took over our planet in 1977.  It’s pretty difficult to surf YouTube these days without coming across lightsabre battles and reenactments.  One site in particular divided the film into 15 seconds chunks and had fans claim fill in each one with their own artistic vision.  The result is pretty interesting stuff.  You can check it out over at Star Wars Uncut.

But what about the major motion pictures inspired by Star Wars?  A quick Google search revealed a massive list of films compiled by WOOKIEEPEDIA.  I figured there would be a ton of movies that referenced George Lucas’ epic franchise.

Going through the list, I came up with my top 10.  Enjoy!

10 Flicks Movie Lists: Pre Drinking Comedies

One of the most popular posts on The Athletic Nerd is the first edition of 10 Flicks: Pre-Drinking Comedies.

Essentially, a pre-drinking comedy is a movie you put on with a group of friends while you are getting ready for a massive night out.  The first list focused on the newer classics like The Hangover and Old School.

Many people questioned why I left out some of the best comedies of the 90′s.

So…

Here are 10 more of my favorite pre-drinking comedies.

Honorable Mention:Wayne’s World, The Waterboy, Swingers, American Pie, Zoolander

Happy Gilmore

“The price is wrong bitch!

pre-drinking comedies

Happy Gilmore is a classic.  I find the older the movie gets, the more people are excited to watch it before a night out.  Many love the movie but rarely find the time to put it on and laugh while Bob Barker beats the crap out of Happy.

Dodgeball

“Nobody makes me bleed my own blood… Nobody!”

pre drinking comedies

Dodgeball is one of the most random comedies in history.  How they managed to pull that cast together to pull off a movie about dodgeball is beyond me but I’m happy they did.  It’s a perfect movie to enjoy while the shots are being lined up and distributed.

Super Troopers

“Awesome prank Farva”

pre drinking comedies

The last time I watched this movie was at my friends cottage with about 9 other people.  Most of us were quoting the lines before they happened and we were laughing so hard we missed the actual lines and had to rewind it.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

“Someone help me. I’m still alive only I’m very badly burned.”

Pre drinking comedies

A part of the humor in this movie died for me when Mike Myers tried to duplicate it with The Love Guru.  Ouch.  However, it’s still a hilarious movie with an equally funny sequel.  (I didn’t like Goldmember)

Billy Madison

“Well, ‘sorry’ doesn’t put the Triscuit crackers in my stomach now, does it Carl?”

pre drinking comedies

I miss old school Adam Sandler comedies.  They were awesome.  Much like Jim Carrey, I know those days are over but I’m thankful we still have gems like Billy Madison.

Spaceballs

“Druish princesses are often attracted to money, and power, and I have both, and you know it!”

pre drinking comedies

Spaceballs is an amazingly dumb comedy and I mean that in the best way possible.  It’s brought us some of the best quotes of all time and there’s nothing better than laughing at Barf’s antics with a beer in hand.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

“No thanks, I don’t smoke.  It’s a disgusting habit”

pre drinking comedies

I mentioned Jim Carrey earlier because I really miss comedies like Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb & Dumber among others.  Still, he has provided us with some of the greatest comedic performances of all time.

A toast to Jim Carrey!

Varsity Blues

“I love that dog”
“I think it’s a pig.”

pre drinking comedies

Here is a movie that definitely deserves the pre drinking comedy label.  Varsity Blues is one of my favorite sports movies and it also happens to be absolutely hysterical.  We’ve all done ‘The new tweeter end zone dance’.  Admit it.

Tommy Boy

“Your brain has a… shell on it.”

pre drinking comedies

I miss Chris Farley a ton.  He was one of the funniest people on the planet.  Tommy Boy is one of the best pre drinking comedies out there simply because of his brilliance.

Dumb & Dumber

“Oh here it is… Samsonite.  I was way off”

pre drinking comedies

Was there really any doubt this movie would be on this list?  In my opinion, it’s the most quotable movie of all time and easily one of the best pre drinking comedies in the history of the world.

Rainy Sundays: Uncle Buck

November 15, 2009 at 2:44 pm

It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly 16 years since John Candy passed away.  He’s been in so many comedies I love.  He’s part of an exclusive list of people that can make you laugh so easily you feel like they’re your best friend.

Remember Barf?  There’s no way you’ve made it this far into the post and not smiled yet.

Spaceballs definitely deserves to be on this list someday.  However, today I want to discuss another absolute classic.  Uncle Buck.

Uncle Buck is a perfect Rainy Sunday flick.  Let me explain why…  Have you ever put a lot of effort into a sandwich?  I mean a giant record breaking sandwich?  Have you ever gathered the necessary amounts of cheese, crackers, pickles and baby carrots to go with it?  How about an enormous glass of milk to accompany the meal?  To me that’s a perfect lunch.  (I love sandwiches.)  The only thing better than a perfect lunch is a great movie to go with it.  I recommend Uncle Buck.

“Holy smokes!  He’s cooking our garbage…”

I categorize Uncle Buck as easy watching.  Relaxing afternoons are perfect for a good meal, a great movie and an amazing power nap once it’s over.  We’ve all been there.  You get on your couch with a blanket and before you know it, 2 hours have gone by and you wake up feeling fantastic.  (I would really love to take a nap right now.  I consider power napping a hobby)

Uncle Buck also represents one of the hardest laughing fits I’ve ever had with 2 of my close friends.  The three of us had a house in college and we used to watch movies like Uncle Buck all the time while recovering from viscious hangovers.  The following clip made us laugh non-stop for hours.  Since then we all do ‘the laugh’ whenever we think about Uncle Buck. (hee hee hee)

Uncle Buck.  Another Classic.
